Copy New 1
Overview
Copy New 1 creates a duplicate of a selected component without copying any nested components. The selected component file is duplicated with a new unique numeric index, while all nested components are reused from the original.
This is ideal when you want a quick “variant” of an assembly/part and only intend to change the top-level file.
The index for each new file is assigned automatically to ensure uniqueness; for details on how file names and indexes are managed, see File Names.
How It Works
- You select a component occurrence to copy.
- You specify the placement point for the new occurrence.
- The command duplicates only the selected component document (new indexed file name) and reuses all nested references.
Usage Instructions
- Select the component you want to copy.
- Click the Copy New 1 button in the Create panel.
- Choose/click the location for the new component.
- Modify the new component as needed.
Troubleshooting
- The new component is not created: Verify selection and file/folder permissions.
- File cannot be copied: Ensure the original component is not locked or in use by another process.
- Naming conflicts: Check for existing indexed file names in the destination folder (see File Names).
Examples
Duplicate a duct route: Use Copy New 1 to create a new top-level assembly, then replace a single fitting as needed.
Duplicate a subsystem in a master assembly: Create a new indexed top-level file while keeping nested content reused.
